Thanks for joining me on this journey. Many of you know me, and hopefully, most of you don't. That would be great because it means the word is spreading! For those that don't know why I have started this, let me tell you what I'm all about.
Normally, I'm the kinda guy who likes to do silly things for no reason in particular, apart from the fact that it seems like a good idea at the time. Like move out of the country spontaneously, or climb a mountain without prep. Well this time, I've decided to do something for a very good reason. To honor an amazing man who's life ended much to quickly. My Father!
Recently my father passed away at the young age of 63, with many complications, compliments of being a diabetic. The very scary truth of the situation is that had He, or us as a family, been more aware of the situation, we would have seen many tell tale signs of what was happening and potentially stopped it. But as a public,or even as those who have diabetes, we aren't very informed about this disease that so many people live with.
This brings me to why we are all here. TO CHANGE THE WORLD!
My mission to raise at least $5000 to be donated to the cause on the morning of March 21, 2010. Why that day? Well because that is when I will be running the LA Marathon, in the name of Riley Johns, my Dad, and in thanks to everyone who helps me along the way. . . financially, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Whats that? How can you help you ask? What do you mean physically? Great question. As I said, this isn't just about the money we are going to raise. This is about raising awareness. Empowering us with the knowledge of how to keep from getting it, or how to control it if we do have it. To do that, I need you all! I need you to read this blog, and check out my facebook page as I trek through my training and make the conscious lifestyle change. I need you to take weekly challenges with me.
If you are local, I need you to come out and run with me while I train. If you feel ambitious I want you to sign up for the marathon, or at least the half marathon or 5K in the name of the cause. I need you most of all, to tell your friends and family, and help me get as many people on board the Knowledge Train as possible.
This blog will have it all. Pain and suffering, happiness and laughter. Beer and food even. Don't forget the happy ending. so hang out with me.
This disease is stoppable! Our mission isn't!
